Banaras Hindu University claims that ayurvedic medicine Fifatrol can work well in the treatment of corona. Experiments with the ayurvedic medicine Fifatrol have already been started at Banaras Hindu University. Researchers claim that this immuno-boosting drug will greatly increase the body’s resistance for corona patients.

Research on ayurvedic medicine for corona prevention has started at Banaras Hindu University at the initiative of AYUSH Research and Development Task Force. Dr K N Dwivedi, Professor and Principal Investigator of the proposed project said, “Traditional ayurveda in India can be relied upon to prevent any infectious disease. This drug Fifatrol enhances the body’s resistance to disease. The role of this drug on corona patients is being examined.” He also told that Fifatrol is completely safe and this drug has no side effects.

The central government has already formed a high-level panel to find out the stage of Covid-19 research in the country. The panel includes representatives from AYUSH, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Ministry of Science and Technology. The panel also includes Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Directorate General of Health Services and Central Drug Control.

The Ministry of AYUSH issued guidelines on March 31 asking the Center to send a list of research and therapies on how Ayurved, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy can help to prevent Covid-19 infection. Around 2000 proposals have been submitted to the Ministry of AYUSH in this regard.

According to the AYUSH Task Force, several universities and science research firms in the country are conducting research on ayurvedic medicine and therapy. Among them, the proposal of Fifatrol ayurvedic medicine by Banaras Hindu University has been accepted. Clinical trials with this drug are also about to begin.

AIMIL Pharmaceuticals is the manufacturer of the drug Fifatrol. Aimil Pharmaceuticals said that the drug is used to treat viral and bacterial infections, flu and respiratory diseases. The drug has also been observed effective in curing any complex infectious disease in the previous years. Fifatrol is used as a medicine for cold, cough, fever and skin problem caused by Staphylococcus bacteria. However, this drug is being used for the first time in the treatment of novel coronavirus.

Dr Dwivedi, a professor at BHU, said that Fifatrol is very useful in the treatment of respiratory diseases. And since the severe acute respiratory syndrome is seen in patients infected with the SARS-COV-2 virus, it is to be hoped that this drug will do some good to reduce the infection. Now a protocol is being worked out on how much dosage and how long breaks should be given to Corona patients. This protocol will be sent to the task force of the centre. Patients will be given medicine only after getting the approval.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhopal has also claimed that Fifatrol is effective in preventing coronavirus. They claimed that Fifatrol might be more effective than any allopathic antibiotic on patients.
