Almost every companies are giving ‘work from home’ facilities due to corona epidemic. In accordance with the situation, some telecom companies have brought special data pack options so that people can easily ‘work from home’.

Reliance Jio has introduced its Rs 251 plan recently in comparison to their Rs 249 plan which gives 2 GB data per day, unlimited Jio to Jio calls, 1000 minutes Jio to non-Jio calls free with a validity of 28 days.

But Jio’s ‘work from home’ data plan is quite attractive. With a validity of 51 days, the company is giving 102GB of data – that means users are getting 2 GB of data daily. Short Message Service, voice calling facility are not included in this plan. The plan was actually launched during the time of the cricket IPL. This plan can be utilised on a phone or JioFi device.

On the other hand, BSNL has also brought a free of cost ‘work at home’ plan. Only BSNL broadband customers are given benefits through this plan – they do not have to spend money for this.

Another offer from BSNL is a free data plan. In this plan, BSNL is providing free data to its customers without spending any extra money for that. This plan is absolutely free for broadband users of BSNL. Users are getting 5GB of free data every day with a speed of 10Mbps. After the completion of the daily data limit, the internet speed will be decreased to 1Mbps. This plan will be offered only to BSNL broadband users with existing landline connections, and it will be available in all circles of BSNL, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Past Promotional Offers: BSNL launched a “work from home” broadband plan in early 2019 and 2020, which was aimed at existing landline customers who didn’t have a broadband connection. This offer provided 5GB of data per day at a speed of 10 Mbps and then reduced the speed to 1 Mbps. The offer was temporary and extended multiple times, but the latest information available indicates it ended in mid-2020.

Purpose: The plan was introduced to help people work and study from home during the nationwide lockdowns related to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a strategy to encourage landline users to adopt BSNL’s broadband services.

Availability: While the offer was available in many circles, some sources from the time mention that it was not applicable in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Current Broadband Plans: BSNL’s current broadband plans are not free. They offer various tiers of service with different data limits and speeds, and they all have a monthly rental charge. For example, there are plans starting from as low as ₹249 with a data limit of 10GB per month, with speeds decreasing after the limit is reached. Other plans offer much higher data limits, such as 1400GB or 4000GB, at higher speeds and for a monthly fee.
