Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari was born on 17th December, 1904 at 6:20 am at Calcutta. He belonged to an educated and reputed family at North Calcutta. He came into touch of his Guru Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari in Deoghar and plunged his life till his death in religious pursuit.

He used to visit his disciple’s houses throughout the year all over the universe. He was a very simple natured who had perfect power by which he use to pave the different difficulties by worshipping God. He used to sing regularly with Bhajan and Kirtan. His blessing is always with us. He breathed his last in USA in the year 1999 on the 19th of August.

Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari (1904 – 1999) was a revered Indian guru, spiritual master, and a prominent Mahant (Head) of the Ram Niwas Brahmacharya Ashram in Deoghar, India. He was the successor to his Guru, Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari.

Biographical Details
Birth: December 17, 1904, in Midnapore, West Bengal. His childhood name was Manmohon Banerjee.

Spiritual Journey:

He left his college studies at the Scottish Church College, Calcutta, at the age of 17 in 1921, and went to the Deoghar Ashram to join his Guru, Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari.

Guru’s Command:

After his Guru passed away in 1927, he continued severe austerities and pilgrimages. He only took on the role of a spiritual teacher to the masses after receiving an express command from his Guru in a vision.

Mahasamadhi:

He passed away on August 29, 1999, in Tennessee, USA.

Spiritual Philosophy and Teachings
His core teachings revolved around a combination of intense spiritual practice (Sadhana) and selfless service (Seva).

Ananda (Bliss):

He emphasized that the purpose of life is to be in a state of Ananda (divine bliss) and uninterrupted communion with the divine. He defined Sin as anything that obstructs this divine communion.

Bhakti and Kirtan:

A central part of his practice and teaching was Hari Naam Sankirtan (chanting of divine names). He taught that in the present age (Kali Yuga), Kirtan is the ultimate path to attain salvation (moksha) and direct communion with the divine. He often sang Rabindra Sangeet, considering them high and profound prayers.

Surrender (Purna Sharanagati):

His constant advice was for complete surrender to the divine will, emphasizing that one does not need to search for the divine, as the divine will seek and come to a prepared soul.

Sadhana:

His own life was marked by rigorous tapasya (austerity), japa (repetition of a mantra), yoga, and Dhyan (meditation).

Social Service and Legacy:
Sri Sri Mohanananda Brahmachari believed that holy men (sadhus) have a duty to contribute significantly to human society.

Institutions:

He established numerous charitable trusts, social service foundations, hospitals, medical centers, and schools across India under the name of his Guru, Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari.

Yagnas:

He performed major Vedic rituals like the Vishnu Lakshmi Yagna and Rudra Yagna for the welfare of humanity and the world. He performed the Holy Yagna at Badrinath Dham for over twenty years.

Seva (Service):

He insisted that social service must be performed with an attitude of humble and selfless attitude, carried out silently.

He is remembered for his powerful, joyful, and charismatic personality, which brought an immediate sense of peace and bliss (Ananda) to his countless disciples and devotees. He was really an ambassador of the Sanatan Hindu religion.
