‘Nakshatra’ is a Sanskrit word which literally means that which never decays. In Sanskrit, nakshatra refers as something which is ‘na chharati’, nakshatras are fixed and always constant, from this word constant constellation is derived. The nakshatra reflects the primordial level of the zodiac belt which lies beneath the twelve basic signs. The nakshatra further divided the constellations into 27 segments of equals the entire zodiacal belt of 360º.

The root naksh behind the term ‘nakshatra’ means to approach, worship or attain, while ‘tra’ is a suffix suggesting instrumentality. The nakshatra were defined originally as means of connecting with cosmic power and extending human mind to the cosmic consciousness. The moon nakshatra is equally important for all aspects of mundane astrology and for better understanding of social functional ceremonies. Even there are some specific nakshatras assigned for performing auspicious work on auspicious time.

(i) Rohini, Uttara-phalguni, Uttara-Ashadha and Uttara-Bhadrapada are good for oath taking ceremony by minister and other VIPs, laying foundation of cities & doing operation.

(ii) Ashwini, Pushya, Hasta and Abhijit are good for starting industry.

(iii) Shravana, Dhanistha, Shatabhisha, Punarvasu are good for acquiring vehicles.

(iv) Pushya for any work other than marriage.

(v) For namakaram or giving name of the new bron, 10th, 12th, or 16th day of child’s birth is taken into consideration. Ashwini, Rohini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Punarvasu, Magha, Uttara-Phalguni, Uttara-Ashadha, Swati, Shravana, Dhanistha, Shatabhisha, Uttara-Bhadrapada & Revati falling on Monay, Wednesday, thursday or Friday are good.

(vi) First feeding of rice or other cereals may be done the 6th, 8th, 9th month of the new born child. Ashwini, Mrigashira, Punarvasu, Dhanistha, Pushya, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Shravana, Shatabhisha and Chitra falling on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday are good.

(vii) First hair cutting should be done on 3rd or 5th year of the child. Punarvasu, Mrigashira, Dhanishtha, Shravana, Revati, Pushya, Chitra, Ashwini, Hasta falling on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are very good for First hair cutting. Avoid new & full moon days.

(viii) Commencing education for the first time in the life of a child should commence on 5th day in the 5th month of the 5th years. This day should be reckoned form the birth Nakshatra falling in the 5th year and not calendar day. Ashwini, Punarvasu, Adra, Hasta, Chitra, Swati, Shravana & Revati falling on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

(ix) While shifting residence – avoid birth constellation of the self and family members involved in such shifting. Anuradha, Mrigashira and Hasta are good for shifting.

(x) Repairing of house should be done on Friday or it is best when Jupiter transit Rohini, Mrigashira, Ashlesha, Uttara-Phalguni, Uttara-Ashadha, Shravana and Uttara-Bhadrapada.

(xi) Surgical operation may be done, if possible when the moon is in the increase but avoid exact time of the full moon. Avoid own birth Nakshatra when Ardra, Jyestha, Ashlesha or Mula coinciding with 4th, 9th, or 14th lunar day are ruling. Avoid when Mars and Saturn are in aspest each other and any of them are retrograde.
