Patanjali Ayurved Limited is facing a demand of nearly 10 lakh packs every day for Coronil, the most controversial immunity booster for COVID-19. Baba Ramdev disclosed the fact at a joint discussion of ASSOCHAM that they were actually struggling to meet the demand. They are able to supply only around 1 lakh kits of Coronil every day while the demand is 10 lakhs.

One Coronil Kit costs 500 rupees. Ramdev said, “We now have a demand of 1 million kits of Coronil every day. But we are able to produce one lakh.” He further said, “If we could have kept the price at Rs 5,000 in Corona situation, we could have earned Rs 5,000 crore easily. But we didn’t do that.”

Yoga guru Ramdev joined a discussion session titled ‘Atmanirvar Bharat’ (Vocal for Local) organized by the merchant association ASSOCHAM on Wednesday. He claimed that Coronil had such demand during the video conference.

Earlier, Baba Ramdev announced at a press conference at Patanjali’s headquarter in Haridwar that they had come up with the first ayurvedic medicine. The controversy started from that day. The tug-of-war began with how Ramdev released Corona’s antidote into the market without the approval of the Union Ministry of Health and the Ministry of AYUSH. Patanjali was also given legal notice.

It is said that before launching a medicine into the market, a detailed report of its formula and a clinical trial has to be submitted. The report has to be submitted in detail with information on what ingredients the drug is made of, the way the research has progressed, its safety trials in the laboratory and the results of experimental application in the human body etc. It also goes under scrutiny whether it has been approved for licensing or not. Those who filed a lawsuit against Patanjali Ayurved alleged that Patanjali did nothing about it. Therefore, the use of this drug would not be allowed in any way.

Later, after much debate, the Ministry of AYUSH granted clearance to Coronil in the first phase of July. The Ministry of AYUSH applied a condition that Coronil would not be claimed as COVID-19 medicine and not a cure for infections. Instead, it could be called a prophylactic drug to increase the body’s resistance to disease.

According to Baba Ramdev, the leaders of the industry should build a brand that would serve the people on a long-term basis. They should work with honesty on which people of the country would rely. He also requested people to have the patience to come out of the health crisis.

He told that Patanjali has become a big brand with the help of efforts, hard work and respect for traditional knowledge. In his words, several companies and people use to ridicule Patanjali saying that the company has faith but not science. But, people should know that Patanjali has a team of more than 500 scientists and they are doing research continuously.

According to Baba Ramdev, he believes in Guru-Shishya tradition, religion and culture. But, he also believes in the scientific approach. He commented that the cow ghee brand of Patanjali has become a big brand and which has become ahead of competition from the contemporary brands of other companies. According to him, the Patanjali group has acquired an estimated turnover of nearly Rs 10,500 crore.
