Barcelona’s Teatreneu Club is making trial with charging audience per laugh with the help of software technology, based on facial recognition with measuring emotions. Tablets are being used to install the software and they are attached to the back of every seat. Each laugh costs 0.03 euros, also with a cap of 24 euros.

To fight against decreasing audience numbers, this concept was being developed. Cyranos McCann is the partner for this experimental project to react on increasing government taxes on tickets at theatre.

The theatre authorities reported that a positive result is being observed with overall prices of ticket goes up to 6 euros. In Spain, theatre authorities are also following this system. Recently a comedy club launched a mobile application for payment and pay-per-laugh season ticket also.
