‘Markesh’ (pronunciation – maarkesh) is defined in simple words as an extremely bad period or rough phase in life when someone goes through serious illness, fatal accidents, treachery, loss in business, extreme financial stringency, or legal disputes. Dasha of Markesh planets is absolutely considered inauspicious as per Phalit Vedic astrology. Life becomes very troublesome in Markesh Dasha, even a person suffers pain from a nearly death-like situation or sometimes death does take place.

Some situations in the birth charts of a few natives proclaim very inauspiciously when Mahadasha-Antardasha-Pratyantardasha becomes fatal. In Vedic astrology, these Dashas of concerned planets are called ‘Markesh’. Lets us explain in elaborate ways what we can call a planetary transition along with Dasha.

Markesh and its Influences

We need to analyze the 2nd, 6th, 7th, 8th & 12th houses for considering Markesh.

As per the native’s birth chart (D1),

2nd house is considered for wealth and speech,

6th house is considered for sources of any disease (roga).

The 7th house and the 12th house are considered for marak. Also, the 12th is considered for expenses, whenever a native will fall ill, definitely expenses will occur for hospitalization and cure from diseases.

The 8th house is for life expectancy or death.

As per the classical text of Parashari Hora, different planets are called ‘Markesh’ in different ascendants. But Sun and Moon are never accounted for as Markesh planets. Examples:

In the case of Aries, Ascendant Venus doesn’t act as Markesh though it is the 2nd and 7th house lord.

If Rahu and Ketu are placed in the 6th or 8th or 12th house from the ascendant then considered Marak. If ascendant lord, 6th lord, or 8th lord aspects Jupiter or Saturn we consider it as this period. Even the 22nd drekkanadhipati and 64th navamsha are considered as Markesh who is responsible for death & extreme illness.
