Predictive Vedic astrology is basically based on 12 zodiac signs, 9 planets, 27 nakshatras & Dasha- Antardasha-Pratyantar Dasha of nine planets. On any given birth chart of a native, there remain few empty houses which may be 3-8 in number.

Some of the learned astrologers of recent times called these empty houses or Bhava “Supta bhavas”.

There are some analytical significances of Empty Houses in Birthchart. They are as follows:

1. If the lord of the empty house is situated in Kendra bhava( 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th) or Trikone bhava (1st, 5th, 9th) then it always gives an auspicious result. If any house is empty or not occupied by any planets then we must see which planets have an aspect (Dristhi) on that house.

Example: If the ascendant (Lagna) is empty & Jupiter is in the 7th house then the Ascendant becomes powerful as the Ascendant is aspected by Jupiter.

2. If the lord of the empty house is situated in the 6th or 8th or 12th house(Bhava), then the impact of that house will be a little bad.

Example: If the 10th house is empty and the lord of the 10th is in the 5th house (Kendra Adhipati in Trikone) but it will be situated in the 8th house from the 10th. In this special kind of combination when a native will attend Mahadasha or Antardasha or Pratyantardasha of the 10th lord, definitely there will be sudden changes ( both positive or negative) or transfers or disturbances in the job. Somewhere there will be a sudden transformation either good or bad.

3. Now if the 7th house is empty in the birth chart and the 6th house and 8th house are occupied by malefic planets, then it is assumed that the native has to face marriage-related problems. But if the 7th lord is placed in either Kendra or Trikone then problems related to marriage may arise but no such major issues will follow after marriage. But, if the 7th house is occupied by malefic planets or it is surrounded by ‘Papkartari yogas’ then marriage-related problems will be more.

4. If any house is empty, suppose the 5th house is empty then the astrologer must check the Karaka planet of the 5th house i.e. Jupiter. If Jupiter is well placed the birth of the child is well assured because in Predictive Astrology multiple factors work. Suppose Jupiter is placed in Kendra or Trikone (1st or 5th or 9th) from the 5th house i.e. Jupiter is in 2nd or 9th or 11th house. It gives auspicious results.

Now, as Venus causes luxury and materialistic bliss it gives earnings related to that particular planet posited in the 2nd house from Venus.

If Mercury is posited 2nd from Venus then it gives teaching or accounting jobs, Share trading business. If Jupiter is 2nd from Venus then it gives legal advisory or consultancy. If any planet is vargottomi in D1 & D9 charts then the lord (vargottomi planet) of that empty house gives positive results to natives.
