President Obama and President Raúl Castro of Cuba met on 11-04-2015, Saturday in a first face-to-face meeting between the two leaders of the two nations after 50 years. Mr. Obama called it a “Historic meeting” while sitting adjacent to Mr. Castro in a little room in the traditional focus downtown where the Summit of the Americas was being held.

“Our administrations will keep on having differences with them, but simultaneously we agreed to keep on making strides forward that propel our correlative interests.” He estimated his meeting with Mr. Castro “open and productive,” and also said that work would proceed on the objective he declared in December of re-building strategic relations and reviving embassies in Havana and Washington.

Still, Mr. Obama said urgent ventures in the standardization procedure would not be finished quickly. He held back before reporting an official conclusion. He said that he wanted to study the matter further whether to expel Cuba or not from the US’s list of state sponsors of terrorism.

Mr. Obama gave the logic that the most ideal approach to address the United States’ conflicts with Cuba and different nations in the half of the globe on such issues as human rights and democracy was by involving with them.

Mr. Castro said that he needed a fresh start with the United States in spite of the two nations’ “long and entangled history”. He included that “we are willing to examine everything, although we have to be understanding and very much patient.”

The meeting on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas was an essential venture for Obama as he pursued to lessen strains with Cuba and defuse an eras old question that has affected relations with other nations of the region.
