It’s high time in Bengal to celebrate another big occasion of Kali Puja and Diwali simultaneously with full of enthusiasm. With the Durga Puja hangover is still continuing, people are now prepared for another big occasion. Not only the Bengalis, a sizeable population of non-Bengali communities like Marwari, Gujarati, but Bihari also become engage in celebrating Diwali throughout the country.

Lakhs of people visit Dakshineswar, Kalighat, Tarapith temples this time to offer prayers to the goddess Kali on this auspicious day. People use to celebrate Diwali with fire-crackers and lighting up their houses. Very beautiful glittery decorations are found with rows of earthen lamps around entrances and other areas of the houses. Another attraction of Diwali is colourful Rangoli made with coloured rice, flour, flower petals, coloured sand depicting artistic skills of the girls and women of Indian society.

Kali puja is performed every month on the specific time period of “Amavasya” according to the Indian Almanac. But “Karthik Amavasya” is something different because it comes during the time of Diwali (between the months of October or November). This year, it has come on the 23rd of October.

This day has great significance in the Hindu religion as it implicates the worship of Kali, a supremely powerful Goddess. Special offerings are given through rituals of the Tantrik Puja system. The prime purpose is to solicit blessings of the Goddess Kali in order to conquer evil forces, uninterrupted social life, financial growth as well as spiritual growth and progress.

This puja is performed very carefully and accurately. Tantrik rituals are used for begging for supreme power from the Goddess Kali. Usually, this puja is done at midnight with great precaution and dedication. It is said that Goddess Kali is integrated with incredible power and flows of unforeseen energy that burst around her.

People perform this puja to acquire huge strength to combat innumerable challenges of life and gaining wealth, prosperity, good health, happy relationship, peace in the course of life. Kali Puja is very famous in North-East India, especially in Bengal.
