Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Bulent Arinc is the recent high-level official to deliver a ridiculous statement. He warned women that they should know what is forbidden(“Haram”) to them and protect their chasteness; also said that women should restrain attitudes and should not laugh out loud in a public area.

In Arinc’s opinion, modern girls lost their chasteness than the previous generation who used to feel shame by becoming red in the face, used to lower their heads and turn eyes when men looked at their faces. Women now use to discuss cooking recipes and other non-serious matters on cell phones he blamed. He suggested women discuss non-serious matters face to face and not on cell phones.

These remarks of the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey spread like an uncontrollable fire in Turkish society. Thousands and thousands of women in Turkey started protesting on various social media like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. They started posting their pictures in such a way as if they were really laughing at the Deputy Prime Minister loudly.

International media like Hurriyet, The Guardian, ABC News, The Daily Star, National Post, Washington Post, Time magazine, Newsweek and so many newspapers, magazines, radio, Television, a number of websites made Arinc’s comments as their publishing issue. Unfortunately, the Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey became a figure of fun to the world.

But Arinc did not apologize for his ridiculous and insulting statements at all. Instead, he started making statements to attack people who criticized him. He could not understand why people were focusing on his one and a half-hour speech. But this kind of brainless statement by Turkish officials has committed previously also. In the past also, Bulent Arinc made a statement to a rape victim that she might have wanted the incident. He also told dangerously that a man of 45 years old could marry a girl of 15 years old if the girl’s parents give permission and it was quite natural to him.

There are so many instances of this kind of brainless statement on behalf of Turkish ministers. In a statement condemning abortion, Ankara’s Mayor Melih Gokcek told that the child should not die if the mother was raped. He advocated that the mother should die in that situation. The Minister of Forestry asked women who were searching for a job, whether their household works were enough or not.

The Deputy Prime Minister and the Prime Minister are not serious about authoritarian rule in jailing journalists, killing Christian priests, supporting the Jihadis in Syria, theft, corruption, etc. By suggesting women on their attitudes, the conservative leader Arinc is trying to attract Muslim voters to support the incumbent Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan who currently serves as the 12th President of Turkey as of 28 August 2014. But this kind of primitive strategy had hurt the mind of almost half of Turkey’s society. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, a rival of Erdogan in the Presidential Election said that their country needed women to create an atmosphere soothing with a smile and communicate with people in a very polite manner.

Turkey’s government has got condemnation throughout the world for its brutal policies inside the country and abroad. Erdogan and his team are actually weakening Turkey’s stand in the international arena into a wretched state. Only Islamist women would laugh in private after the presidential election, while women of other religions would get 100s of whipping after laughing in public.
